The mini-MPV award returns to the 2009 champion, the VW Touran, thanks to good looks, practicality, brand prestige and driving quality.
On sale since September, the facelift, which took design inspiration from the Polo, Golf and Touareg and included a new grille, front bumper and rear tail-lights, helped return the Touran, described by VW as the “most efficient MPV” it has produced, to top spot.
Equipment levels were also improved with aircon, alloys, roof rails, ESP and six airbags all standard. The second generation of Park Assist, which requires less space to perform parallel parking manoeuvres, is also offered.
The new line-up comprises two petrol engines: a 1.2 105hp and a 1.4 140hp, while there is a 1.6 90hp or 105hp and a 2.0 140hp or 170hp diesel option. The fleet-friendly Bluemotion green badge is available on the 1.2 105hp petrol and 1.6 105hp diesel, with the latter returning 61.4mpg on a combined cycle and emitting 121g/km CO2.
With an all-new C-max launched recently, this sector will remain very competitive over the next year; for the time being, the Touran is triumphant.
