Road safety charity Brake is calling on fleets to consider the use of telematics to monitor their drivers and vehicles.

The Fleet Safety Forum, a division of Brake, is offering a campaign pack which “alerts drivers and managers to the benefits of using telematics systems to manage risk and improve safety”.

The charity said vehicle tracking technology is of growing important to fleet safety: One recent survey suggested that market penetration of such systems doubled from 2009, with more than half of fleets questioned indicating that they now use the technology. Health and safety is becoming more commonly seen as one of the main reasons for, and benefits of, using telematics.

The Big Brother campaign pack is available for free to the first 50 companies who order it or otherwise costs £7.45 plus p&p. The pack is provided free of charge to members of Brake’s Fleet Safety Forum,

Roz Cumming, Fleet Safety Forum manager, said: “This is a growing market and one which fleet managers must consider as part of their wider strategy. While tracking technology may not be suitable or accessible for all fleets, it can be a really effective and data-rich monitoring option to help managers gather, analyse and importantly, act on key information about their fleet’s day to day operation, such as driver behaviour, fuel efficiency, journey times and more.”
