We try to keep quiet about our Exeo’s Audi A4 underpinnings, preferring instead to let passengers enjoy the car as a Seat.
That’s because we’re interested in how much of an impact badge snobbery has on people’s opinions. We tried this approach on one of the mag’s bosses, a family man typically used to Mercedes and the like, and his feedback was that the interior was Smart and “much like an Audi”. Very perceptive. We’ve since revealed the estate’s heritage, but this hasn’t affected his opinion. “Knowing it’s an old-generation A4 is a reassuring factor, but it definitely isn’t a determining factor,” he says. In fact, he regards Seat as an up-and-coming brand with good marketing and style.
“I think Seat knows it market and I think this launch is further example of this – it was something that was obviously missing,” he says. And while “its not quite as big as it looks”, he would still consider buying one.
