Skoda‘s Greenline range is making its mark in fleet, with around a fifth of Octavia and Superb business sales being accounted for by the green-friendly variants.
Fleet boss Martin Burke said the number will increase as more and more people become aware of its benefits.
And the Greenline range is being developed, with a sub-100g/km Fabia supermini due later this year.
However, Burke thinks businesses “feel a duty to talk about being green” but not necessarily do it. “I still think people want what they want,” he said. Skoda’s new Superb Estate will have a Greenline model on sale by December.
With the introduction of the new Superb Estate, Burke has reiterated Skoda’s desire to grow its market share to 2% in 2010, around 16,000 units. He said there are signs that fleet sales are coming back but added it was “too early to say we are out of a decline”.
“As scrappage comes to an end, there will be more focus placed back on fleet.”
However, he said Skoda has a clear strategy to “not go after short-term fleet business”.
As the carmaker launches the Superb Estate, Burke is confident its model line-up including the Superb hatch and Octavia hatch and estate, means there is a strong offering for businesses.
The Yeti, which sold around 700 fleet units last year, has done better in the sector than expected, said Burke and the Octavia vRS was also popular particularly with user choosers.
A new advertising campaign at motorway service stations has also been launched to target user choosers.
