Pay-as-you-go car club Streetcar is adding BMW 1- and 3-series models to its offering of VW Polo, Golf, Touran and Transporter as the rental firm almost doubles its number of cars between now and September.
The company currently has around 1100 vehicles, but the new additions will take it to the 2000 mark, and Streetcar said it is also looking to double its number of locations from the current 1000. Part of that expansion will come from the addition of an eighth city, with Streetcar opening up in Bristol to join London, Brighton, Cambridge, Southampton, Guildford, Maidstone and Oxford. There will also be growth in the number of car points in various cities.
The company also now boasts around 2000 corporate clients, up from 900 in December 2008, with business accounting for around 10% of the company’s members.
“These moves are part of our radical expansion plans for 2010 and will create a more dynamic service to suit our increasingly diverse customer base,” said Brett Akker, Streetcar co-founder. “Now we have something to suit every occasion, budget and member.”
The BMW models will be available to rent all day every day, by the hour, day, week or month. Streetcar quotes £6.95 per hour or £69.50 for 24 hours for the 116d, or £8.95 per hour and £89.50 for 24 hours on the 318d.
“Streetcar can help organisations optimise their transport usage, by cutting out the overheads of maintaining a fleet of pool cars and only paying as and when they need a vehicle,” said Akker. “As well as the environmental benefits, companies tell us that the scheme affords them both financial and significant administrative savings, with management time freed up to be utilised in other areas.”
