Aimed squarely at the chauffeur market the newly added long wheel-base version of the BMW 730d has had an extra 14cm inserted into the length of the car.
All 14cm has been inserted to boost rear passenger leg room and a sumptuous place the rear seats are too. In fact they’re extra sumptuous if you option the reclining rear seats and twin flat-screen monitors with DVD player at a combined additional cost of £4345, fitted to our test car.
Driving the longer 7 is almost no different to the ‘regular’ 7, which is already more than five metres long yet has great composure. The only downside is a slight worsening of the ride comfort (even with the adjustable suspension in comfort) over the regular 7.
The only change to how you drive the car is where you park it as the rear doors are now substantially longer than before and need plenty of space to be opened into.
However, it’s on the costs front that the 730Ld scores points over competitors. The 730Ld, which costs 88.4p per mile, has an ultra impressive 180g/km CO2 figure and is capable of 38.7mpg, putting it streets ahead of the competition.
