New car registrations for fleets were 28.0% down in June, broadly in line with the half-year figure of 29.3% down. But retail registration received a massive boost from the Government’s scrappage scheme, ending June 1.9% down on June 2008, compared with the figure of 22.4% down over the first half of 2009.
Overall the market was 15.7% down in June, and 25..9% down for the first six months of the year.
Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Peugeot and BMW were the top five manufacturers in order last month, with BMW beating arch-rival Audi into sixth by 23 units.
Further down the list, Renault was an astonishing 80.5% down on June 2008, registering just 1096 units compared with 5609 last year. The company is now 69.8% down over the first half of the year, which is a worse fleet performance than every brand bar Chrysler, which recorded 73.2% down for the first six months of 2009 with just 859 registrations.
Only Ford, Chevrolet and Lexus were up on June 2008 in fleet registrations.
The top ten models table is populated only by the top four manufacturers. Two Fords, Focus and Fiesta, headed two Vauxhalls in the form of Corsa and Astra, with Mondeo rounding out the top five.
