I chose our Volvo XC60 as my long term test car because I figured it would fit my needs almost perfectly.

If you’re a new reader, then it’s worth knowing that I live nearly 50 motorway miles from the BusinessCar office and have a wife, two kids and three dogs. So during the week I need a comfortable cruiser and at weekends and holidays I need to be able to throw a lot of stuff in the car and go. With minimal stress.

After a recent trip north, I can confirm the Volvo does all I’d hoped and more for comfort and practicality.

Below the boot cover there’s nearly 500 litres of space, enough for a week’s holiday kit and two out of the three dogs (obviously I didn’t use the boot cover). Dog number three curls up in the front passenger footwell.

At the risk of going too dog-mad (some might say that’s it’s too late) you can fit five border collies in an XC60’s boot if, say, you want to take a cheesy picture or go to the beach for a walk.
