A diesel 2007 model year Range Rover will be the first vehicle on sale in the UK with a device to physically prevent misfuelling. The new 3.6 TDV8 model, which replaces the previous 3.0-litre diesel, will be fitted with a sensor that detects the smaller nozzle of a petrol pump and closes the filler pipe.
“This takes away all of the barriers to diesel apart from the smell,” said John Edwards, Land Rover’s UK managing director. Edwards added that “the V8 diesel will go into the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in October, but it’s not planned to go into the Discovery at the moment. In the Range Rover it will take four seconds off the 0-60mph time and it’s 75% quieter too.”
