Peugeot has announced new plug-in hybrid powertrain options for its 308 and 408 family car ranges.

The new powertrain pairs a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 125hp electric motor. With the 408, these combine for a total system output of 225hp, while with the 308 this figure is 195hp.

A 17.2kWh battery (14.6kWh usable capacity) allows an electric-only range of up to 48 miles for the 408, and up to 49 miles for the 308. A standard 3.7kW onboard charger allows a full recharge in four hours and 20 minutes, which reduces to just over two hours with an optional 7.4kW charger.

Prices for the 308 with the new powertrain are £38,110 with the Allure equipment grade, and £41,320 with GT. These prices rise to £39,310 and £42,520 respectively for the SW estate version.

Prices for the 408 with the new powertrain are £41,500 with Allure spec, and £44,820 with GT.

Orders for the 308 will open on 27 February, while orders for the 408 will open in March. Deliveries for both models are expected to start in the Spring.
