Volkswagen is making new engine and spec combinations available with its Golf lower-medium car.

Among the new options are the Match equipment grade with a 204hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, with a 19.7kWh battery allowing an electric-only range of more than 88 miles, and consequently a 5% company car tax BIK rate. This is priced at £36,140.

Standard equipment with the Match grade includes 17in alloy wheels, LED headlights, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, sat-nav, lane assist, and Climatronic air conditioning.

Also new to the Golf range is the Black Edition equipment grade with either a 1.5-litre, 150hp mild hybrid petrol, or 150hp 2.0-litre diesel engine, priced at £33,690 and £35,500 respectively.

Standard features of the Black Edition grade include 18in alloy wheels, upgraded IQ.Matrix headlights, illuminated door handles and front Volkswagen logo, and heated front seats.

The new variants will be available to order from Thursday, 21 November.
