Think will be aggressively targeting business uses when its City electric car goes on sale at the end of the year.
Trials involving up to 80 of the hi-tech two-seater will be opened to fleets “mutually aligned to the brand”, according to UK sales and marketing director Don Cochrane.
“We’ve been looking for fleets with a clear CSR (corporate and social responsibility) mandate,” he said. “Our key customers would be a large fleet with visible vehicles, wanting to cut carbon and encourage their staff to think green.”
The company is currently in talks with a dealer group to sell cars both in London and cities across the UK.
The high price of £14,000 plus £100 a month battery lease will be softened for fleets by the 100% tax writedown on the first business year. “We reckon that’ll save 30% of the ex-VAT purchase price, which is going to help us with fleet sales,” says Cochrane. Company car tax for battery cars remains at 9%.
The Think belonged to Ford until a cash crisis forced it to sell before, this, the all-new car could be launched. Now, six years later, fresh capital has finally brought it to market.
