Leasys attracted the attention of our judges, as it supports its employees and colleagues wholeheartedly. According to its submission, a Mental Health Ambassador regularly presents to the company’s network to highlight any significant information, deliver messages or just to check in with the team. The company also has Mental Health First Aiders for employees to talk to in complete confidence.
Firstly, we ask Matthew Boswell, managing director and Gemma Green, head of HR, how the business has changed since Leasys started promoting wellbeing in the company. Boswell tells us: “Wellbeing is always on the agenda; we have simply embarked on a more focused journey to bring our team’s wellbeing to the foreground of our daily working life.”
Green adds: “We provide our employees with the framework and they challenge us all to be different. Thus, creating more collaboration and care of each other’s wellbeing.
“More awareness about mental health and monthly actions to support wellbeing and mental health has been provided with the introduction of wellbeing challenges in our monthly newsletter.”
Leasys ‘Commitment Charter,’ is, according to Green, the wellbeing measure that they are most proud of. She says: “We introduced a framework to represent what we believe in as an organisation, that creates a healthier and more sustainable environment. Our leaders are challenged to lead from the front, to set a caring example and are open to challenge from any teammate on a daily basis.
“Plus, the creation of ‘Employee Volunteer Programmes,’ in order to give all of our employees a voice and help us to make our organisation a ‘better place to work’. This is a key element of bringing our people together and creating a true team environment.”
Further development of their ‘one team approach,’ Green tells me will be the highlights of wellbeing developments in 2024. She says: “This will create opportunities for our employees to integrate, to collaborate, to share best practice and continue creating an open and respectful culture.”
We and Boswell continue to talk about being recognised by winning the first Wellbeing Award. We ask him how this makes the business stand out against its opposition. He says: “People are at the heart of our business and must come first in all that we do. “We are a company which invests and cares about its team. We believe that this is reflected in the way that we work and how we treat our customers.”
Despite winning this accolade at the 2023 Business Car Awards, Boswell is the first to admit that it will not change the business, but instead reinforces its approach of putting their people at the top of the agenda. He says: “We will enhance regular feedback both to and from our employees to help us to stay focused on what is required to create good business practice and promote better mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.”
