Vauxhall has unveiled the first model from its new GSe electrified performance sub-brand.

It’s a version of the lower-medium Astra, in both hatchback and Sports Tourer estate forms.

The Astra GSe features a 225hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, with preliminary WLTP fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures of 256.8-235.4mpg and 26-25g/km respectively.

Vauxhall says improved handling will be on offer thanks to a dedicated chassis that is 10mm lower than the standard Astra, as well as a specific GSe suspension set-up and steering calibration.

Exterior styling features include 18in alloy wheels, and a sportier front bumper and fascia, while inside there are Alcantara-trimmed sports front seats.

Orders for the Astra GSe in the UK will open towards the end of this year, with the first deliveries scheduled for early 2023. Full specs and prices are yet to be announced.
