Citroen’s electric Ami city car will launch in the UK next year, the manufacturer has confirmed.

Designed strictly for use in urban areas, the Ami is a two-seater with a top speed of just 28mph, and an electric driving range of 46 miles from a 5.5kWh battery.

Previously available only in left-hand drive markets, the two-seater Ami, which is 2.41m long, will remain a left-hand drive model for UK sales.

It is said to be coming here due to high customer demand, with Citroen already having received more than 12,000 expressions of interest

Classed as a quadracycle, in France it can be driven by drivers as young as 14, but in the UK a regular full driving licence will be needed.

UK reservations for the Ami will open on Monday. Prices are yet to be announced.
