Volvo has opened orders for the C40 Recharge, its new electric SUV-coupe.

The model is priced at £57,400 when buying outright, and is also being offered on a subscription basis from £729 per month – both options include benefits such as servicing and roadside assistance.

It features two electric motors, one powering the front and the other the rear axle, taking energy from a 78kWh battery that allows an expected driving range of around 261 miles, which Volvo says is expected to improve over time via over-the-air software updates.

A battery charge to 80% capacity will be possible in around 40 minutes.

The C40 Recharge will also feature Google Android-based infotainment, with Google apps and services built in.

The first UK deliveries are expected early next year.
