BMW has revealed pictures, details and pricing of the new Mini Clubman – the long-awaited estate version of the Mini.
Going on sale in the UK on 10 November this year, the Clubman versions of the Mini are 24cm longer than the standard Mini. This gives a valuable 8cm more room to rear-seat passengers and allows for 100 litres more boot space, which with the rear seats up now reaches 260 litres. With the seats folded maximum boot space is 930 litres.
Available in Cooper and Cooper S trims the Mini Clubman is priced from £14,235 for the 1.6 Cooper petrol, £15,400 for the Cooper diesel and £17,210 for the 1.6 turbo Cooper S.
Although the Mini Clubman can be referred to as a five-door estate, the design is anything but standard. At the rear the tailgate uses a van-style two-door arrangement – each with its own wiper. On the passenger side there is just one door – as with the standard Mini. However, on the driver’s side there is a second, rear-hinged door (historically known as a ‘suicide door’), which can only be opened when the driver’s door is open.
BMW is not expected to release a version of the Clubman with doors suited more to right-hand-drive markets – with the suicide door on the pavement or passenger side of the vehicle.
The new Mini Clubman will also feature as standard BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technology including a stop-start function on all manual versions, brake energy regeneration and gear-shift indicator.
