Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS) Fleet has agreed a deal with electric vehicle (EV) charging firm Pod Point to offer home charging services for customers.
The venture means that fleet customers opting for an EV or plug-in hybrid can have a home charge point and installation services included within the cost of the lease.
VWFS Fleet says this is important as 60% of vehicle charging is done at home, usually overnight.
It says the deal means it is in a strong position to consult customers on the best solution for their fleet, ensuring drivers that are a good fit for an EV have the opportunity and infrastructure to make the switch.
Head of sales and marketing Tom Brewer said: “With the increasing development of EVs, charging was always going to be the next big challenge.
“We’re keen to support the industry and education around EVs is the key.
“Not everyone will be a good fit for EVs, but for those who are, it’s crucial to have a home charging solution. We can offer these charge points and installation as part of the cost of the lease, making the shift to EV as smooth as possible.”
Pod Point CEO and founder Erik Fairbairn said: “This is a landmark partnership that will deliver home charging to VWFS’s customers in the most straightforward, efficient way.
“Drivers will benefit from Pod Point’s easy-to-use smart charge points along with our app, which allows drivers to track their charging activity at home and en-route.”
