BMW is to fit its award winning 3-series with its tax-beating Efficient Dynamics technology from September as well as launching a host of new derivatives with the new systems.
The green Efficient Dynamics technology, which includes a stop-start system and brake-energy regeneration, means all the all-conquering 320d saloon drops from a benefit-in-kind tax band of 20% (153g/km) to the diesel minimum of 18% with an output of 128g/km. The 18% banding applies to the 320d coupe and estate too, as well as the saloon and estate versions of the 118d. Fuel consumption improves by between 16% and 19% on the 3-series models fitted with the Efficient Dynamics technology.
Included in the changes for the 2008 model year is the introduction of a more powerful 1-series diesel badged 123d.
The range topping diesel is powered by a 204PS twin-turbo 2.0-litre engine, first revealed by BusinessCar a year ago, and is capable of 54.3mpg and also sits in the 18% tax band with a CO2 output of 138g/km.

The expansion of the Efficient Dynamics plan sees new green technology now fitted to the 6-series, 5-series, 3-series, 1-series and X5 ranges.
Prices for the new ranges will be revealed nearer their on sale date.
