Ford has revealed its Mondeo hybrid is to be offered with an estate bodystyle for the first time.
The new model, which will join the existing four-door saloon as a hybrid option in the Mondeo range, will arrive at UK dealers in spring 2019.
Ford expects the option to boost sales of the estate, which currently makes up 30% of UK Mondeo sales.
The hybrid powertrain used in the Mondeo pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an 88kW electric motor to produce a total of 187hp, and is paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
Regenerative braking technology is capable of capturing up to 90% of the energy normally lost during braking to replenish the battery.
In the saloon the powertrain achieves an official combined fuel economy of 58.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 108g/km.
Ford says full specifications, along with pricing, for the hybrid estate will be revealed closer to its on sale date.
