Seat has revealed the name and a new teaser image of its upcoming large SUV.

The name Tarraco was selected by an online poll, which 146,124 people took part in.

It was the most popular choice, with 35.5% of the vote, from a shortlist of four names, which also included Avila (28.7%), Aranda (26.9%) and Alboran (8.8%).

Tarraco is the former name of the Spanish city of Tarragona and follows more than a dozen previous Seats with names derived from Spanish places.

The Tarraco will be Seat’s third SUV, and will sit in the range above the compact Arona and mid-sized Ateca.

It seats seven, and will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and the Nissan X-Trail.

All other details about the Tarraco, which is due to be launched at the end of this year, are yet to be confirmed.

It will be the fifth Seat launch since the beginning of 2016, following the Ateca, the facelifted Leon small family car, the latest-generation Ibiza supermini, and the Arona.
