German truck manufacturer MAN has released further details about its forthcoming TGE light commercial vehicle ahead of it arriving in the UK next autumn.

Based on the Volkswagen Crafter van, the LCV can be specified as a traditional panel van and a van with windows. It is also available in crew cab and single cab formats.

The TGE is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine with power outputs ranging from 102hp to 177hp mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Although efficiency details are yet to be revealed, MAN claims the new vehicle has the best fuel consumption figure in its class, and its total cost of ownership figure is lower than that of its main rivals thanks to low repair costs.

According to MAN, the TGE’s maximum load volume is rated at 18.3 cubic metres while the 1.5-tonne payload is claimed to be best in class. The Crafter’s payload is rated at 953kg, while the Ford Transit is rated at 940kg.

Safety-wise, the TGE is fitted with an emergency braking assist feature as standard and includes a distance-based cruise control system, while inside, the van offers seat covers from the firm’s truck range.
