More three-quarters of company car drivers claim they would not buy an electric vehicle because long distance trips on one charge are not yet possible, despite 98% of UK drivers travelling less than 100 a miles day.
According to research by Leaseplan, just under half of those questioned (45%) highlighted the vehicle being good for the environment as the most important reason for choosing an EVs, followed by the tax benefits (20%) and liking the make and model of the vehicle (17%).
“The benefits of ULEVs [ultra-low emission vehicles; models which emit less than 75g/km of CO2] are now so compelling, that if individuals and businesses don’t consider them, they risk missing out on the benefits,” said Lesley Slater, operations and business development director at Leaseplan. “It’s concerning to see that more than three-quarters of motorists would avoid opting for an electric vehicle because they believe they can’t cover ‘long distance’ trips.”
“Many modern electric vehicles can cover over 100-miles on a single charge, with the latest Nissan Leaf being able to reach 150-160 miles per charge, for example,” she added.
