It’s a handsome beasty, the 308 SW GT, especially in the dark metallic blue of our test car.
Peugeot has remembered how to make a car ride and handle at the same time with the GT.
A shame there’s no manual gearbox option to make the diesel SW GT feel sportier as performance only feels adequate.
Paddle shifters on the steering wheel are finger-tip easy to use, but the ‘box’s responses can be slovenly.
Hard to fault claimed economy of 68.8mpg and a real-world 55.2mpg during our test mileage on mixed roads.
The boot’s so big it has an echo. It’s also got no lip or drop to the load floor, so it’s a doddle to load in those overstuffed bags for life.
More rear legroom than the hatch offers excellent space and makes fitting a kiddy seat that bit easier.
The low-set steering wheel and high-mounted instrument binnacle works better in the 308 than 208, but still not sure it’s needed.
Why Peugeot thought anyone would want the engine sound like an old Volvo T5 is unclear, but Sport mode offers this aural trick.
espite Peugeot’s sporting heritage, the 308 SW GT diesel doesn’t quite appeal in the same ways as a Skoda Octavia vRS wagon.
