1 What was your first job?
The usual holiday jobs, including a stint in a posh branch of Barclays and bar work. Then I was a management trainee at Marley Vehicle Leasing who sponsored me through university.
2 What was your first company car?
I was in charge of vehicle returns, but the best I could do for myself was a red Ford Escort 1.6GL 5dr.
3 What did you listen to on your last car journey?
One of my many Spotify playlists, usually incorporating my favourite US rock group Train.
4 What one thing do you wish you could do better?
I’ve been playing golf for 25 years and it’s still the most frustrating sport in the world.
5 What’s your biggest achievement?
My wife will kill me if I don’t mention the family. But, in business, being part of the senior management team that merged Kenning Leaseline and Mann Egerton Vehicle Contracts to create the very successful Inchcape Fleet Solutions division.
6 Who are your role models?
I’ve worked for several colourful characters (some of whom I’d prefer not to mention) over the years. They’ve taught me that anything is possible when you have a good team. The team is key to success.
7 What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done?
Buying some wine in a French supermarket and getting my currency conversion wrong. My £20 bottle of wine was £200!
8 What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting?
The design of our new responsive website for CD Fleet Services and what new features will keep us ahead of the market in the rapidly accelerating world of digital vehicle remarketing.
9 What’s in your garage?
Usual rubbish: too many sets of golf clubs, four bikes, two tents that have never been used, and many more items that I put there a long time ago thinking I would soon clear them out.
10 What’s the worst thing about your job?
The amount of time lost through travel. It’s something that affects a lot of working people in our industry and we must invest more in our transport infrastructure.
11 What one law would you make or change?
I’d make sure that middle lane drivers on motorways get taken to task. The number of people who cannot drive properly on motorways in this country is frightening, infuriating and dangerous..
12 What keeps you awake at night?
Not much these days. Having survived a serious health scare six years ago, I am delighted to still be here.
13 Who is your ideal celebrity date?
Tricky one – so many – but probably fellow Crystal Palace fan Susanna Reid.
