Jaguar has revealed a facelifted version of its XJ luxury vehicle ahead of it going on sale in the autumn. It is the first XJ model to emit less than 150g/km of CO2.
The 2016 model year XJ will also feature the firm’s InControl infotainment system. It will be priced from £58,690, £1790 more than the current base-spec model.
The most frugal model is the 300hp 3.0-litre diesel engine, which emits 149g/km of CO2 and returns 49.6mpg. Currently, the most frugal model is powered by a 275hp 3.0-litre diesel engine, which returns 46.3mpg and emits 159g/km of CO2.
The new engine is also Euro 6-compliant.
Three other engines power the XJ – a 340hp 3.0-litre petrol, a 510hp 5.0-litre petrol V8 and a more powerful 550hp version of the supercharged V8.
BMW recently announced its next 7-series would feature four models which emit less than 130g/km, while Mercedes’ S-class has plug-in hybrid and hybrid options.
The XJ’s exterior has received subtle updates, including full LED headlights, while Jaguar has added the firm’s InControl infotainment system to the model. It is accessed through an eight-inch touchscreen.
Jaguar is also introducing its Remote Essentials tool, which is accessed through the InControl smartphone app. Remote Essentials allows owners to check how much fuel is in the tank, whether the doors are locked and if the windows were left open.
The vehicle’s antenna also acts as a wifi hotspot, providing a connection for up to eight devices.
The XJ is also fitted with safety systems including the firm’s traffic sign recognition tool and adaptive cruise control with queue assist.
