Vauxhall has added its new 1.6-litre petrol engine to the three-door Astra GTC.

First seen in the Cascada convertible, the Ecotec unit allows the GTC to hit 60mph in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 143mph, making it the fastest non-VXR model in the Astra range.

Power has also increased by up to 30% over the previous 1.6-litre turbo model, with the Ecotec unit packing 200hp.

Emissions of 154g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 51mpg mark a 13% improvement in efficiency according to Vauxhall.

In addition to the engine, Vauxhall has also introduced its Intellilink infotainment system to the Astra GTC range, featuring satellite navigation, voice control, Bluetooth connectivity and a seven-inch touchscreen display.

The new GTC variants are available to order now from £20,995, with first deliveries due in spring 2014.
