At an industry ‘do’ the other day I got chatting to a Jaguar owner about stop/start systems. He didn’t know how much fuel his XJ had saved because he wasn’t sure how long the car had been in ‘stopped’ mode.
I, however, know exactly how long the 6 has ‘stopped’ because the trip computer tells me it’s just over six hours in 9000 miles.
What I don’t know is the amount of fuel saved. However, going on internet suggestions for idling diesel engines, it’s probably about 7.2 litres of diesel or £10.22 at today’s prices.
Calculate up to a 60,000-mile contract and that’s approximately £68.
