The Ampera learns how many miles your driving means it can travel on its battery and adjusts the projected range display.

When it arrived, it was reading that a full charge would last 35 miles, but now, full of electric juice, the read-out projects 44 miles, thanks in part to the car generally being used on my EV-friendly commute of A-road and 50mph motorway roadwork-dominated journey.

I recently tried an eco run of gentle acceleration and keeping the speed down. The result? I managed 52 miles before reverting to petrol. It’s fair to say I’m impressed by the Ampera.
