Not long ago gritter trucks were out keeping roads ice-free but wrecking car windscreens in the process.

The Zafira was one victim, and while the chip at the top was noticeable, I thought it’d be a simple repair job.

But a second chip, hidden at the base of the windscreen, caused greater concern when a few days later it announced its presence by turning into an alarming crack.

Booking an appointment with Auto Windscreens for new glass assured me that while the crack might worsen it wouldn’t cause the window to shatter.

Thankfully, neither happened before a mobile fitter came out with a replacement.
