In what has, in recent years, been a less than static category, it’s perhaps no surprise that fleet operators voted the S-class the best luxury car this time round.
An all-new version of the flagship Mercedes was revealed in 2013 and impressed BusinessCar enough to warrant a perfect 10 out of 10 score in July.
It seems our readers agree with our verdict too, as they dubbed the S-class better than last year’s winner, the Jaguar XJ, and reader favourite BMW’s 7-series, itself a winner in 2012.
Alongside the usual suite of pioneering luxury, safety and technology features every new S-class brings, the latest model has introduced cleaner powertrains, including hybrids.
The biggest-selling S350 Bluetech 3.0 V6 diesel is now down to 146g/km and 51.4mpg, while the forthcoming diesel-hybrid version promises 115g/km and 64.2mpg.
A plug-in hybrid due later this year will produce 69g/km – by far the best the segment has ever seen.
Extravagant features such as six different settings for the back-seat massage system and a camera that reads the road and automatically adjusts the suspension before you ride over the surface continue to leave the S-class in a technological and luxurious league of its own.
